Screening

Gungner screens the identities it verifies — companies and people — against sanctions lists, politically-exposed-person (PEP) lists, and adverse media. Gungner ingests and indexes the public list data itself, so a screening check runs against Gungner’s own up-to-date copy, not a live call out to each list’s publisher.

Verified identities, not bare name matching

Section titled “Verified identities, not bare name matching”

A raw name-matching engine only knows how alike two names look. Gungner screens verified identities — name, birth date and nationality from the eID/registry data it already confirmed — so a screening check can demand agreement on more than the name before it counts as a real match. That’s what keeps false positives down: two people who share a common name but disagree on birth date are treated very differently from two people who share a common name and agree on everything else.

The result comes back with a band, not a raw score:

Band Meaning
clear Nothing that meets the review threshold, or whitelisted.
review Worth a human looking.
hit Strong agreement across name and the fields Gungner verified.

Bands are never colour-coded and Gungner never recommends what to do about one — the bands, the reasons and the evidence are the product; the decision about what a band means for your business is yours. Every candidate carries structured reasons, not free text, so you can build logic on top of them directly rather than parsing prose.

Every candidate’s evidence follows the same shape described in Canonical objects and evidence — you can always trace a hit back to which list it came from and when Gungner last indexed it.

A screening check’s result, once produced, is never edited or deleted. Re-checking a subject produces a new result rather than overwriting the old one — so your audit trail always shows what was known at the time of each check, not just the latest state.

Once a subject is under an active monitoring subscription, new sanctions or PEP hits and clearances on that subject surface automatically as screening.hit and screening.cleared events — see Events and webhooks for how to consume them.
